The Pokerstars Software:The Online Table

If you are a beginner in playing poker online, and plans to play on PokerStars, it is important that you familiarize yourself with their software first before jumping in to real money games. Try downloading the software and play in the play money games for awhile to get yourself accustomed to the ways around the software.

Pokerstars’ software is one of the reasons why the world’s largest poker room is where it is now. It’s reliable, user friendly and requires very basic system requirements to run. With hundreds of thousands of players logged in at any time, the Pokerstars team must constantly maintain and upgrade their software to remain competitive with the top rating poker rooms. Over the years since it’s launching in 2001, the PokerStars software has improved a lot to maintain its competitive edge.

If you are a beginner in playing poker online, and plans to play on PokerStars, it is important that you familiarize yourself with their software first before jumping in to real money games. Try downloading the software and play in the play money games for awhile to get yourself accustomed to the ways around the software.

Here are the basic parts of the Pokerstars poker table to guide you while exploring your way around the Pokerstars table.

The Seats

The seats are the circles around the table. Just like in a brick and mortar poker room, there is a dealer button to indicate the positions of the players per hand. PokerStars allow the users to upload personalized pictures to serve as their avatars but most players prefer to block these images so as not to clutter the screen. In the player’s seats, their VIP status levels may be displayed as a color strip or as stars around the rim of the circle surrounding their picture. Also by the seats are the hole cards of the player. By passing the mouse over the hole cards, there will appear an “eye” icon. If you click this “eye” icon your cards will be shown to the table.

The Table

The table is arranged as it would be in a live poker game. The dealer button moves clockwise, and the other positions follow the same pattern. The community cards placed in the middle of the table and the chips representing the pot are placed just below it.

On the center of the top part of the table is a dealer options which provides you with many in-game options such as “the instant hand history”, requesting statistics, and changing the deck appearance and theme of the table.

The Action Buttons

By the time you are seated, the bottom right side of your screen has a check box that will let you choose if you want to wait for the next big blind or not. If you will remove the check from the box, you will be dealt with hole cards on the very next hand. If you are dealt with hole cards, the lower right part will show you with check boxes that allow you to choose your action in advance. Your action choices; fold, bet, raise or call, will appear on the same place if the time has come for you to act.

The Chat and Note Taking tools

These are the tools on the lower left side of the screen. The chat box shows what is happening on the game; the recent past actions of the players, the winner of the previous hand, and announcements from the administrators. Next to the chat tab is the note tab, which allows you to take notes on your opponents. Pokerstars is one of the first poker rooms to allow note taking.

The stats tab shows how many hands, you played, in which positions, and the percentage of the showdowns you’ve won as well as the number hands you’ve won without showing your cards. Lastly the info option gives the players a small tutorial of the buttons around the software.

Above the chat box, there are options for sitting out and auto-folding.

The Top Bar

From right to left, the options on the top bar are the hand number, the instant hand history, the session options, the view options, the view lobby button and the leave table button.

The last two are obvious so I will not define them anymore. The hand number I used for the sake of referencing the hands being played. If you click on the hand number and the previous hands button, the recently played hands will appear for review.

The session options allow you to send commands that will be applicable for all or selected groups of tables. If you wish to sit out on three of the five tables you’re playing for example, you can do that using the session options. The view options provide you with options for how the tables are arranged and other views.

These are the basic the options that the Pokerstars software offers. The same options are available to your opponents. It’s up to you on how you will use these options to improve your game.

Good luck and remember to gamble responsibly.
