Blackjack is a casino game though different from most of the others. In this game your present scores are affected from the scores of previous rounds because the cards which are dealt to a player are a function and result of the cards which were dealt in the previous round while in others, making the present spin not at all related to the last spin. In this article we will talk about the card counting system used in the game of Blackjack. Also we will see how the present system works, and have a glance at the history of the evolution of card counting.

The first basic card counting strategy system was developed way back in the 1950’s. It did not gain much importance at that time, however it was in the late 1960s, when a book titled “Beat the dealer” was published by a Mathematics professor; Dr Edward O. This book proved a boon to those who were really interested in playing Blackjack. This book showed how a player can keep a record of the ratio of high and low cards in his deck with the use of a simple counting system. Thus it helped the players to become smarter by keeping an edge over the casino. In today’s time, one of the most popular counting system is “hi-lo system”. It is popular since it enables the player to track the count and change his betting patterns.

How does a card counter work to keep track of the cards? It is very simple since it is just an addition or subtraction of digit 1 i.e. when a high card is dealt, subtract 1 and if it is a low card you need to add 1. A greater count shows that there are a larger amount of higher cards in the deck and consequently increases your chances of winning.

Card counter is not a jinni that will do all the chores; it does have its own limitations-

They do not memorize all the cards in the shoe.

They do not know what the next card is going to be.

Overlooking the limitations of a card counter, this technique definitely helps the player to gain an edge and thereby has more chances of winning the game.
